This is an e-mail written by some in the know of what is going on. Take his message anyway you like.
This is what he wrote:
In 2001, I was working in the Research & Development (R&D) team at a Cancer Centre (CC), for molecular elucidation of the cause of gastric cancer.
One day, came a Professor for the USA. This Professor was meant to be authoritative scientist in gastric cancer research, having multiple decades of experiences. I was one of a few lucky ones who had an opportunity to attach to this professor during his 5-day visit @ CC. He showed a lot of interesting results on gastric cancer research but on the 5th day, he concluded in a closed door internal academic opinion exchange session, that he couldn’t trace the cause of gastric cancer at all, after 15years of effort.
It wasn’t so surprising then, because, breakthrough in science seriously isn’t easy. If there is a breakthrough in 20 years, it’s considered lucky, in academic field.
Professor later added, because he had consumed so much money from Glaxo Wellcome, he had to present some “results” to the investor. So he confessed that he picked the “most probable” ‘causative’ gene which, by statistical analysis, contributed to only 15% of all gastric cancer incidences, as a target gene for gastric cancer drug development.
If the gene wasn’t even identified, what use was the drug for? We now know that cancer is not caused by just one gene going hay wired, in fact a very big part actually lies on epigentics (i.e. micro-environmental influence on genes).
I immediately planned for my departure from Cancer R &D on that very day. Also this was one very important episode in my life that strengthen my will to do education on cancer preventive medicine, via proper diet and holistic lifestyle.
